Fall 2017 Fashion Trends: Pantone Color Guide

The Pantone Color Institute revealed their chosen colors for fall 2017 fashion trends back in the spring. If you are not familiar with the Pantone Color Institute, they are the world-renowned authority on color. "The PANTONE® name is known worldwide as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer."*

Every year they choose the Pantone color of the year as well as providing a color palette for each season. I love to see what colors will be in trend for each season; not that I follow them to the letter, but it is still fun to see what the popular colors will be.

If you are curious to see what the fall 2017 fashion trends will be color wise and how you too can add styles from around the world into your fashion choices for the fall, continue to read on. Mariposa Skies has your Pantone color and shopping guide for the fall 2017 fashion trends from around the world!

Fall 2017 Fashion Trends: Color Palette for New York

First, to reveal the chosen colors for New York and London. For this fall 2017 fashion trends, New York is “Bookended by a dynamic Grenadine red and a tawny Autumn Maple; the color palette for Fall 2017 leans more to warmth, “ says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “While comforting, enveloping colors and ease are crucial to the seasonal feeling, standout shades include a pale pink Ballet Slipper, a refreshing Golden Lime, and a bright Marina blue. These hues add a striking touch when paired with the classic autumnal shades of Navy Peony, Neutral Gray, Butterum and Tawny Port.”*

Fall 2017 Fashion Trends: Color Palette for London

I didn't want to limit your color palette to just the New York colors. I believe colors are made to be worn and lived in- so the more the merrier I say!  Here are some additional colors you can add to your wardrobe this fall- straight from the fashion runways of London. “Led by a vivid Flame Scarlet, the color palette for Autumn/Winter 2017/2018 is comprised of strong classics colors complemented by a few unpredictable shades for the autumn and winter seasons,” noted Eiseman. “Unexpected combinations such as Royal Lilac and Otter Brown or Lemon Curry with Bluebell are eye-arresting and create an unusual color dichotomy.”*

You may be asking yourself, 'What now? So I know the hot colors for this fall, but but what do I do now?" Well I am a big believer of adding color to your wardrobe through accessories and layers. Don't get me wrong, I love me a colorful outfit with some bold pattern! But typically I save that for special occasions. For my everyday look I stick with the basics and let my accessories do the talking and be my pops of color and patterns. Trust me, it makes for a very fun dressing experience in the morning when you can add some color to your staple go to outfits like a gray shirt, black leggings, and some booties.

If it helps, think of adding color to your everyday look as if you were a kid again with your very own coloring book. You get to fill in the shapes and objects with whatever colors you desire! Do you feel like going bold? Go ahead and add that pop of flame scarlet through a beautiful necklace!

Remember when I said to add that pop of flame scarlet to your otherwise blank slate outfit? Here I paired this beautiful vegan silk chain necklace from Lanaria with a bold lip. I matched my lips with the necklace but by all means put the dark tawny port on those lips of yours to add a whole new twist to it!  Your simple black outfit just turned up the heat. It doesn't have to stop there; no, you can wear this necklace during the day at the office or with something more casual. Its limits really have no end!

You really can't go wrong in an open faced poncho from Pinarte in a classic plaid pattern. It never goes out of style! Since this look is featuring two of the 2017 Pantone fall colors of navy peony and ballet slipper it will keep you warm from fall all the way through winter. It can even take you from day to evening- depending on what you pair it with.  For the day, I suggest you slip on some of your favorite jeans a long sleeve shirt in ballet slipper and some booties in a toast or the butterum color. For the evening, go for a sheath style dress in blue bell or neutral gray; add a pair of high heel booties in otter or that same neutral gray and you will be good to go!

Well because they are made from aluminum which offers you that Pantone neutral gray color you've been looking for and yet they come with a twist- literally! The designer creates this unique style bangle by bending aluminum into this beautiful wave like form.  Add two of these bad boys together and you have created the perfect eye catching wrist candy!

This beauty of a necklace is from Sesame&Orion and features the fall 2017 Pantone color blue bell. There are two things I love about these necklaces; one is they make me feel like an Egyptian goddess every time I slip one on, and two it changes color. Since it is made from satin ribbon, when it catches the sun light or light of any kind it almost comes alive with color. I love how this blue bell color is paired with a darker blue. It looks fantastic with just a plain t-shirt, jeans and a pair of grey booties, but what's great is it can take you into the evening as well. Pair it with your favorite little black dress, flame scarlet lips and you will look gorgeous!

Pantone Fall Fashion Looks from Japan

If you don't see this look for sale, it is because I have already snatched it up for myself! Just kidding- but in all seriousness- I fell in LOVE with this vintage Haori jacket from Japan. My favorite part is that it features the eye popping grenadine with a sweet ballet slipper pin stripe. Pair it with blue bell color jeans and otter color over the knee boots and it will be your most favorite look of the season- I guarantee it! I found a pretty little lace tank top in the same ballet slipper color in my closet and my heart just melted. I didn't want to take it off. This outfit is the epitome of eastern style meeting the west and tradition meeting modern. Like I said, I'm in LOVE!

Japanese style can be very simple yet very beautiful. This musubidama knot necklace from Ciclo is exactly that- simply beautiful.  It features the fall 2017 Pantone color golden lime. This necklace can be worn as a statement piece or can easily add just the right finishing touch to any outfit. What is even better is the meaning behind the musubidama knot. Yuki explains to those who wear it this fall “...the cord is rolled multiple times until it forms a ball. May the endless dreams and love continue on to whomever wears it just as its round shape represents no-end."

The furoshiki purse is extremely versatile especially in this fabulous grenadine color for the fall. How versatile you may ask? Well this beauty can literally be knotted and twisted into twenty different things- it's not just a purse- it can be made to carry your water bottle, become a mini scarf or even a hat! Talk about your multifunctional fashion accessory for the fall!

The Myoga knot is named after how its shape resembles Japanese ginger (myoga). "Myoga" also means "God's protection." During the Japanese Civil War period, Samurai warriors put on "myoga" emblems when going into battle, praying for God's protection. You can wear these earrings this fall in the beautiful Pantone color of toast, pair them with a beautiful matching bracelet that has the Myoga knot at its center and uses the Shaka knot for the loop closure. The Shaka knot is named because it looks like Shaka's (Buddha's) head. Yuki, the creator and artisan behind Ciclo, makes these wishing Shaka will protect you and be kind like Shaka. So not only do you get triple the blessings with these beauties, but you also receive these blessings as you go into fall season.

It's getting to be fall weather-finally- and what says fall more than scarves! Don't worry though this scarf is versatile as well as functional. It can be worn as a scarf, a shawl, or an accent piece as shown in the picture above. Say you have a work suit you have been looking to warm up for the fall season, well this can be your go to scarf because it's professional enough to wear to work, yet casual so that you can throw it over your shoulders with a black leather jacket, white t-shirt and jeans- slip on some black over the knee boots and you are in business! It has three of the Pantone fall colors- golden lime, lemon curry, and royal lilac. This scarf is straight from the souks of Marrakech, where the artisans make each scarf on a loom. No one else will have a scarf like it this fall. Talk about your one of a kind style!

Fall 2017 Fashion Trends

If you are looking for a piece to sum up most of your Pantone fall colors this season, then look no further than this clutch! It has seven, count 'em seven of the Pantone fall colors- tawny port, neutral gray, flame scarlet, royal lilac, navy peony, lemon curry, and autumn maple. Phew! That was a long sentence!  In all seriousness, this clutch is a wonderful addition to any outfit. With all those colors it can and will go with almost anything in your closet this fall. P.S. It can also be your fall purse within a purse. Throw all your catch all items in this clutch and you will be good to go!

Fall 2017 Fashion Trends

Red and white...oh I'm sorry, flame scarlet and white! What is better than that! Made of cotton, that is once again handmade on a loom, it will keep you warm on those chilly nights AND can be your go to hip sarong for that vacay you are planning to the beach! Since it is two colors and in a simple stripe pattern, you can wear it a bunch of different ways. I paired again with my trusty neutral gray top and a pair of black leggings. Slap on some shaded spruce nail polish, neutral lips with a glimmer of primrose pink and there ain't no stopping you now!

Last but certainly not least, the final clutch. This one keeps within the same family colors with a little neutral gray thrown in the mix; featuring the Pantone fall colors of tawny port, neutral gray, royal lilac, and autumn maple. These colors flow nicely together with a bonus pop of pink! You can go bold and pair it with the Pantone color grenadine as I did with the beautiful vintage Haori jacket or simply carry it with a sheath dress in a beautiful tawny port color. However you wear it, I have no doubt you will get compliments on your excellent selection in style.

    Hi!

It is such an interesting article! I love love love the colors from New York (the first row). Even the pink. Love the 3 piece boards. How do you source the pieces?

    • Katy Schlegel on October 16, 2017 at 3:24 pm

Hi Julia! Thank you so much for your comment! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read my post. I love the New York colors too! The pink is really fun to use on your nails- it is a great neutral color that goes with just about everything. To answer your question on how I source the pieces; I travel to the countries/cities and source them directly from individual artisans. I build a relationship with them; learning about their stories, their fashion, and their culture and then I invest in them and their businesses. I hope that answered your question. Again, thank you for reading!

Such an informative post here, Katy. Loved learning about the fall fashion colors and you have great style in presenting them. This is a warm and personable post and makes one feel comfortable with adding a bit of color and spark to their wardrobe. Love the pieces I have purchased from you at your Farmer’s Market booth in Allied Gardens, so unique.

Thank you Virginia! Such sweet and encouraging words! I thank you for taking the time to read through the post. I don’t wear a ton of color as far as clothing goes, so I love to add my color through accessories. I am pleased that came across in this post. I am so glad you love the pieces you have purchased! It makes me happy to hear that! I hope you continue to enjoy them.
