Travel to Japan with Mariposa Skies

Travel to Japan with Mariposa Skies! Japan is an amazing country filled with traditions of culture and vibrant modernity. And for a cultural anthropologist such as myself, I was soaking up and learning everything I could.

Global Market

One of the things I learned during my travels in Japan was about how different knots are a big part of the fashion in Japan and have been around for centuries.

In fact, Yuki Hasegawa shares pieces of her culture and traditions through her one of kind Japanese knot jewelry.

She mixes her love for her heritage and the enthusiasm for people to learn about the traditions of her culture, with pieces that are thoughtfully made with every wearer in mind.

Traditional Japanese Jewelry

She says, "Every knot has its own meaning. I make my accessories praying that they will bring happiness and good luck to whomever wears them."

One of the most favored of her knot accessories is the Musubidama Knot. This knot holds a very special place for many customers due to its meaning.

It means, may the endless dreams and love continue on to whomever wears it just as its round shape represents no-end.

It was actually pretty lucky to connect with Yuki and her beautiful accessories. My mom and I searched all over Japan trying to find artisan made items.

And we also drank copious amounts of green tea! Not only a traditional tea in Japan, but one that is deeply rooted in ceremony and meaning. (My favorite was the green tea ice cream, not so traditional but so delicious!)

Travel to Japan through Handmade Fashion

The one thing I remember about my first buying trip to Japan was how I had to learn to keep moving forward. It was hard finding Japanese artisan made fashion wares. And the one word that kept me going, my mantra if you will, was- connect- Katy- connect.

I kept repeating that to myself the entire trip. After all that has been, since the very beginning, what I have wanted Mariposa Skies to do- connect cultures, and more so connect people together.

And sure enough, Yuki and I were connected and now I have the opportunity to connect you with her and her amazing jewelry based in her beautiful tradition and culture.

The number one thing customer's say about Yuki's designs, is how special the meaning is to them and the people they gift them to. There is something special having a handmade item and knowing who created it.

If you would like to support Yuki and her amazing art, below are some of her most popular pieces. Each item comes with green tea to share, the meaning of the knot as well as the Yuki's story so you can truly connect with her so you feel like you too have traveled to Japan!
